Wilma Grimsrud

November 20, 1913 — April 2, 2014

Wilma C. Grimsrud, age 100, of Watertown, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2014 at Heritage Homes of Watertown. She was born November 20, 1913 in Fort Atkinson, WI, the daughter of William and Martha (Groehler) Gums. She was a 1930 graduate if Fort Atkinson High School and a 1934 graduate of Carroll College in Waukesha.

As an English and German teacher, Wilma taught high school from 1934-39 in Judah, Westby, and Middleton, Wisconsin. She was also a drama instructor and coach. On June 17, 1939, she married Richard Grimsrud of Westby at the First Congregational Church in Milton, WI. The couple spent the majority of their married life in Milwaukee where they raised their four children. They retired to Sedona, AZ in 1973 where she lived until returning to Wisconsin in 2011. She was a member of American Association of University Women (AAUW), a 20-year volunteer at the Sedona Public Library, and a volunteer at Sedona Girls Ranch Thrift Shop.

Survivors include: 3 children; Gayle (Joel) Rabinovitz of Pacific Palisades, CA; Richard Grimsrud of Sedona, AZ; and Frances (Lee Buescher) Milburn of Watertown, 5 grandchildren; Jennifer (Rob Cosinuke) Krier of Belmont, MA, Amy Krier of San Diego, CA, Richard Milburn of Cambridge, WI, Nicholas Milburn of New York, NY and Joseph Milburn of Chicago, IL. She is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren.

Wilma is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Kristine and sister Marion.
The family would appreciate memorials to Rainbow Hospice, 1st Congregational Church in Watertown or the Sedona Public Library. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on April 26, 2014, at the Heritage Home in Watertown.


The family thanks the girls at Heritage Home and Rainbow Hospice staff for their compassionate and personal care given to Wilma.
