William C. Medenwaldt

William “Bill” C. Medenwaldt, 89, of Waterloo, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at his home.

Bill was born on April 12, 1936, in Hankinson, North Dakota, the son of Alfred and Gertrude (Klawitter) Medenwaldt. He married the love of his life Irene Lala on April 6, 1963, in Minnesota, and the couple enjoyed 62 wonderful years of marriage, together they had two children Stacey and Brett. Bill proudly enlisted in 1951 and served our country in the United States Air National Guard, Air Force, and Navy retiring as a Jet Engine Mechanic in 1989 from the Air National Guard. In Bill’s younger years he enjoyed playing sports in high school, and walking 10 miles a day before school trapping. Later in life Bill had a passion for gardening and landscaping, he enjoyed remodeling every house he ever owned, and was proud of his patriotism for his country. Above all Bill enjoyed spending time with his family that he loved so dearly and many friends.

Bill is survived by his wife Irene, daughter Stacey (Steve Beal) Fandrey, granddaughter Dani (Christian Frandle) Fandrey, Brett Medenwaldt Jr., Bryan (Tara Vanwormer) Medenwaldt, great-granddaughter Brooke Medenwaldt, and his siblings James (Marie) Medenwaldt, Laura Radlund, Lyle (Patti Weber) Medenwaldt, Sandy (Guy) Vogel, John (Eileen) Medenwaldt, and sister in law Norma Medenwaldt. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son Brett Medenwaldt Sr., siblings Verla Westphal, Merlin Medenwaldt, JoAnn Muehrcke, twin sisters in infancy, and brothers in law Carl Radlund, Dennis Westphal, and Robert Muehrcke.

A graveside service with full military honors will take place at 11:00am on Friday May 16, 2025, at Washington Cemetery in the town of Portland with Rev. Ray Bezanson presiding.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s name to the Waterloo Fire and EMS supporters Inc. would be appreciated.
