Willard E. Christian, 88, of Watertown, went home to be with his Savior on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at Heritage Homes in Watertown.
Willard was born on September 11, 1931 in the Town of Lebanon the son of Berthold and Floretta (Oestrich) Christian. He married Rose Kohls on November 10, 1956 at St. John’s in Watertown and the couple enjoyed 53 years of marriage before her passing in 2009. Willard was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church for many years. Willard grew up on the family farm in Lebanon and after serving our country in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers he worked the majority of his life as a machinist, he was always fixing something. He and his brother Louis owned their own machine shop, Grosenick and Christian Inc. in Lebanon since the 60’s. In his free time, Willard was a volunteer with Marquardt Manor and the Watertown Regional Medical Center. Willard was artistic and drew very well; he enjoyed playing cards and fishing. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Willard is survived by his children: Carrie (Neal) Wendorf of Neosho; Alan Christian of Watertown; and Kim (Kevin) Grunewald of Watertown. 4 grandchildren: Katherine, Braeden, Patience, and Taryn. Very special God-Child Stella Furlano. Siblings: Palmer Christian, Louis (Jeannette) Christian, and Dennis (Nathalia) Christian. Special friend Doris Nehls, and sister-in-law Helen Ewert. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife Rose, parents, and sister Malinda and Vernon Zastrow
A private family service will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Watertown with Rev. Mueller presiding. Burial will follow the service at Ixonia Ev. Lutheran Cemetery. A celebration of life for Willard will be held at a later date.
