Wendell A. “Wendy” Wilson, 91 of Watertown, passed away on November 27, 2023, at the Watertown Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Wendy was born in Poynette, Wisconsin on July 13, 1932, the son of James and Esther Wilson. He married Beatrice “Beatie” Uttech on December 6, 1958, and the couple shared almost 65 years together. Wendy was a Corporal in the US Army, stationed in Ft. Lamas, NJ, and was also an instructor for Radio School working with Geiger Counters. He never got called to serve overseas, which at the time was pretty miraculous. He was a Charter Member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and served on the building committee as well as other committees. Wendy was also a lifetime member of the Wethonkitha Club of Watertown. He was in the Sinclair/Arco Oil Business, running the Bulk Plant for many years. Wendy and Beatie were owners of the Wilson's Tip Up Drive In in Watertown from 1969 to 1976. Wendy also served on the Jefferson County Board of Supervisors from 1971 to 2004 and was Chairperson from1989 to 2004. Other hats worn by Wendy were City School Bus Driver, Car Salesman and Body Shop Manager. For over 25 years, Wendy was a bartender at Home Plate Inn. He assisted Meyers's Ambulance Service and worked for Pederson Funeral Home. He was proud to have served his community as an Auxiliary Watertown Police Officer. Wendy was an avid bowler back in the day, and even scored a 290 game.
Wendy enjoyed going to coffee hour at Main Street Café with the guys and flipping for who would buy the coffee. He loved going on the annual family trip to Fort Meyers Beach, Florida. Wendy and Beatie did a lot of traveling in their earlier years to Branson, MO, several Europe Excursions, and various casino's. The couple also enjoyed camping in Rio. Above all else, Wendy treasured spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attended all their sporting and musical events.
