Vernon Wegner, age 74 of Watertown, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2015 at home with his loving wife and family by his side.
He was born in Lebanon, WI on May 24, 1940, the son of Fred and Ella (Uttech) Wegner. Vern graduated from Watertown High School in 1958. On August 27, 1960 he married his high school sweetheart, Penny Luedtke. Together they had 3 wonderful children. In 1962 Vern started work at Oliver Construction as a carpenter's apprentice. He loved the company, people he worked with and the people he met along the way. In 2005 he retired from Oliver as president of the company. In 2007 he started part-time at Loeb-Lorman & Co. He retired from Loeb's in 2014 due to ill health. Vern loved his family and his many friends. He treasured spending time teaching his grandchildren the fine art of fishing. In his early years he enjoyed playing softball, but as he got older, golf with his "buddies" became a priority. He also enjoyed singing with the Faithful Men of Immanual.
Vern felt very blessed by what was given to him and used his time and talents to give back. On September 12, 2013, he was presented with the "Ordinary People, Extraordinary Citizen" award for his many hours as a volunteer in projects that make the "community strong". These projects include the Watertown High School Fitness Center, the ROC, the HAWK - YMCA and many others. Vern's generous spirit, his infectious smile and his never-ending sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.
Vern is survived by: his Wife Penny; Daughter Kimberly (John) Jafferis, Sons Kirk (Julie-fiance) and Kory (Christina) Wegner; Grandchildren Justin (Lindsey) Jafferis, Leo, Olivia, Hailey, Zakary, Skylar and Alexander Wegner; Great-Granddaughter Alexis Jafferis; Brother Burnell (Judy) Wegner; Sisters Glorice (Paul) Indra, Pearl Schuenke, Ellen Woik, LaVern Pusch, Geraldine (Dave) Van Dyke, And Jean (Dave) Krueger and In-Laws Pam and Gary Lohaus. Also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews.
