Verna Abendroth

Verna B. Abendroth 94, of Waterloo, passed away on Friday December 2, 2017.

Verna was born on July 12, 1923 in St. James, MN the daughter of Ernst and Margret (Braun) Birkholz.  She married Elmer Abendroth on June 3, 1950 at St. Mark’s Lutheran church in Mankato, MN.  Verna loved children and spent many years teaching students in Two Rivers and Waterloo.  Verna was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church serving with the Dorcus Society. She belonged to the OWLS group and enjoyed volunteering at Bethesda Lutheran Home.

Survivors include: Sister Grethen Short of Sana Rosa, CA; Step-Daughters Colleen (Roger) Homan of Naperville, IL and Carolyn Abendroth of Madison; Sister-in-law Carolyn Birkholz of Watertown; Nephew Randy (Karen Chamberlain) Short of Thiensville, WI. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son William, Sister Ern-gret and brothers Martin, Jerome and Ernst.  Memorials in Verna’s honor may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church or Bethesda Lutheran Communities.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 PM on Tuesday December 5, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. James Adomeit presiding.  Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 12:30 PM until the time of the service. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Waterloo.
