Thomas J. Herried, 73 of Waterloo, died on Thursday, October 6th, 2016 at Alden Estates of Jefferson.
Thomas was born August 24, 1943 in La Crosse, WI, the son of Wilfred and Cordia (Ness) Herried. Tom graduated from Central High School in La Crosse and later attended UW La Crosse and Western Wisconsin Technical Institute where he graduated with a degree in drafting. He later received his degree in mechanical engineering. Tom was the founder of the first fraternity at WWTI. Tom married his loving wife Carol Weaver in La Crosse, WI on May 29th, 1965. They enjoyed 51 years of marriage together. The couple was blessed with their daughter, Sarah, the light of Tom's life. Tom began his career in engineering at Trane Company La Crosse where he worked for 20 years. Trane transferred the family to Brazil where they remained for 2 years. While at Trane, Tom had the opportunity to work on a NASA project. Tom and his family then returned to Onalaska and he worked for Altec La Crosse as the manager of the drafting department. In 1995, Tom began working for Johnson Controls of Watertown and later Johnson Controls of Milwaukee where he remained until he retired in 2012. Above all else, Tom loved and cared for his family. He was known as a kind and gentle soul by his family and his caretakers.
Tom is survived by: his wife Carol of Waterloo; Daughter Sarah (Eric) Fredrick of Jefferson; Grandchildren Chelsea and Cole Fredrick; Sisters Nancy (Ed) Gansen of La Crosse, and Barbara (Dan Dahl) Bowen of Viroqua. Tom is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, relatives and special friends, including Lynn (Ruth) Schultz and Jerry (Karen) Reichert.
The family would like to thank Rainbow Hospice and Alden Estates for their care and support during this difficult time.

A visitation service will be held at 4:00PM until 7:00PM on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Pederson- Nowatka Funeral Home in Watertown. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 11:00AM with visitation from 10:00AM until the time of service at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Madison with Fr. Michael Radowicz presiding.
