Shirley Thomsen

Shirley J. (Beyer) Thomsen, 87, of Watertown, passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Marquardt Health Center.

Shirley was born on January 14, 1931 in Waterloo, the daughter of Edward and Josephine (Klecker) Beyer. Shirley grew up in Waterloo and worked on the family dairy farm.  As an adult, she worked in the Personnel Department at Bethesda Lutheran Communities and really enjoyed her time there.  Shirley was united in marriage to Carroll Thomsen on September 10, 1949 at St. John’s in Waterloo and the two were blessed with 2 loving children, Patti and Jeff. She and her husband worked on their own dairy farm for many years and so, farming was a large part of Shirley’s life and she loved it.  Shirley loved the outdoors. She was happiest when she was out in the sun. Whether it was planting, driving tractor or tending her garden, she was at home outside. For leisure, Shirley liked to play cards, go bowling and in her younger years she liked to dance. Above all else, Shirley loved her family and they loved her. She will be dearly missed by those she leaves behind.

Shirley is survived by: her two children, Patti and Jeff Thomsen of Oconomowoc; two brothers, LaVern Beyer of Green Bay and Robert Beyer of Waterloo, and a sister-in-law Marlene Thomsen of Valders, WI. Shirley is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, relatives and other friends.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents, and her grandson, Christian Gray.

Memorials in Shirley’s honor may be made to the Ladies Aid group of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hubbleton, or the Watertown Humane Society.

A funeral service to honor the life of Shirley will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, May 14, 2018 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hubbleton with the Rev. Lance Hoff presiding. A visitation will be held from 10:00AM until the time of service at the church. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery in Waterloo following the service.
