Russel E. Matthiesen, 92 of Watertown, WI, went to be with his Heavenly Savior on Thursday, December 10, 2015 following a short illness at Golden Living Center of Watertown.
Russel was born on February 18, 1923 near Curlew, IA, the son of Bruno G. and Grace I. (Gross) Matthiesen. He graduated from Curlew High School and attended Northwestern Bible College in Minneapolis. On April 29, 1945, he married Esther M. Newman and the couple enjoyed 66 years of marriage until Esther's death on September 4, 2011. They had four children. He was employed in the farming industry, traveling in many states. Russel was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church of Watertown and had an unshakeable devotion to his Maker. He studied his Bible earnestly. He followed the St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay Packers closely and enjoyed walking and doing word search puzzles.
He is survived by: his Children Linda (Lawrence) Carlson of Watertown, WI, Marcia (Lloyd) Carlson of Rockford, IL, John (Marlaine) Matthiesen of Valparaiso, IN, and Paul (Jana) Matthiesen of Toledo, OH; Grandchildren L. Michael (Karen) Carlson, Amy (Jeffery) Campa, David Carlson, Jennifer (Sam) Gierke, Andrew (Jeanna) Carlson, Travis (Sarah) Matthiesen, Ashley (James) Rice, Tylan (Kristen) Matthiesen, and Aunna Matthiesen; 10 great-grandchildren; an aunt, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Russel is preceded in death by: his parents, his Wife Esther, three Sisters and their Spouses: Dorothy (Glen) Aupperle, Verna (Russell) Bohn, and Josephine (Clayton) Anderson.
Memorials to Calvary Baptist Christian School of Watertown would be appreciated.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00PM on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Robert J. Loggans presiding. Visitation will be from 11:00AM until the time of service at the church. Burial will take place at a later date.
