Roger J. Riege 74, of Waterloo went to be with his Lord on Tuesday November 14, 2017 at UW Hospital in Madison following a courageous fight with pancreatic cancer.
Roger was born on May 4, 1943 in Columbus, WI the son of Norman and Adeline (Kegler) Riege. Roger married his “high school sweetheart” Carole Luther on July 6, 1963 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waterloo. He was an extremely caring husband, father, brother, “Papa” and friend to many. He cared for others before himself, a genuinely wonderful person. Roger was employed at Perry Printing in Waterloo for 44 years, before retiring in 2004. Roger was a member of the Waterloo Fire Department for 16 years and along with others, helped launch an “Elite” rescue squad unit, which was the first of its kind for such a small town. He lived for attending his granddaughter Michaela’s sporting events, of which there were many, and was her number one fan.
Survivors include: His loving Wife Carole of 54 years; Sons Mark Riege of Milton and Matthew Riege of Waterloo; His inspiration and loving Granddaughter Michaela of Waterloo; loving Grandson Aiden of Milton; Brothers Donald (Wanda) Riege and David Riege both of Waterloo; Sisters Dianne (Robert) Hamann of Watertown and Sharon (Richard) Spies of Waterloo. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A private family service will be held. Visitation will be held on Tuesday November 21, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church Waterloo from 4-7 PM. Burial in the Washington Cemetery will take place at a later date.
