Robert Travis

Robert E. Travis 90, of Watertown, passed away on Thursday Oct. 24, 2013 at the Watertown Regional Medical Center.
Robert was born on July 22, 1923 in Mobridge, SD the son of Floyd & Opal (Earenfight) Travis. He married Blanche Moell in 1945 and later married Linda Wendt in 1968. Robert Travis was an entrepreneur of many businesses including: Travis Food Market, Piggly Wiggly, Super Value, Ford Dealership, Ember's Fireside Restaurant, Sun Den Sales, and several hotels and theater businesses. He was the business manager of Northwest Lutheran Academy, Mobridge SD, and the Food Service Director at MLPS in Prairie du Chien. He was an active member in many WELS Lutheran churches the last being Bethany Lutheran church Hustisford. His community involvement included being a faithful active member of Rotary International for over 50 years, especially enjoying the Foreign Student Exchange program. He participated in Toast masters and was involved in the J.C's in Mobridge at both local and State level positions.
His hobbies included reading, photography, music, going to live theater as well as being a Movie buff. The last 10 years of his life he enjoyed owning and riding a Segway and spent as much time as possible with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include: wife Linda Travis of Watertown; 6 children Barbara Keller of Trail City, SD, Thomas (Doreen) Travis of Stevensville, MT, Janet (Aub) Kirkland of Helena, MT, Jacqueline (Bob) Hanson of Mobridge, SD, Steve Travis of Wauwatosa, WI and Elizabeth (Derick) Russell of Forest Park, IL; 19 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; brother Floyd "Jerry" (Rosalie) Travis of Phoenix, AZ; also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Blanche, son Bobby, sister Helen, brother Dick, grandson Joe Keller, granddaughter Stephanie Van Dike and son-in-law Joey Keller. Memorials may be made to Rotary International or Bethany Early Learning Center.
A memorial service will be held 4:00 p.m. on Sunday Oct. 27, 2013 at Bethany Lutheran Church Hustisford with the Rev. David Pries and Rev. Timothy Bauer presiding. Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday 2:30 until the time of the service. Burial at a later date will be held in Greenwood Cemetery in Mobridge, SD.
