Marjorie A. Schwefel, 85 of Watertown, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at AngelsGrace in Oconomowoc.
Marjorie was born July 17, 1939, in Mitchell, South Dakota, the daughter of Edwin and Freda (Klein) Knittel. She attended and graduated from a Lutheran High School in South Dakota, then went on to attend DMLC in Minnesota where she attained her degree in education. After receiving a call to work as a 3rd and 4th grade schoolteacher at a parochial school in Ixonia, Marjorie met Ruben Schwefel and on June 18, 1961, they were united in marriage. The couple later became members of St. John’s Lutheran Church of North Prairie. Marjorie loved to play the organ and the piano, and especially the chimes. She authored the book “The Last Bridge” in 1984, a story about a young woman escaping refugee camps in South Russia and how she immigrated to South Dakota. She was an animal lover and was especially fond of her cat BJ.
Marjorie is survived by: her husband Ruben; sister Loretta Knittel; in-laws Marie Dobbratz and Ora Kukkan; and special friends Mark (Julene) Smith. Majorie is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Marjorie is preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, and other relatives.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 13, 2025, at St. John’s Lutheran Church of North Prairie with Rev. Michael Nielsen presiding. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart association would be appreciated by the family.
