Marilyn Mae (Chipman) Eske, 91, left her earthly home to be with the love of her life Wilbur on April 23, 2018 in Waupun.
Marilyn was born on July 9, 1926 in Watertown to Veness and Marian (Ceithamer) Chipman. Marilyn married the late Wilbur Eske on April 22, 1945, they would have been married 73 years. They had three loving children, Cheryl Baumann, Robert, and John.
In 1975, Marilyn and Will built the Home Plate Inn in Lebanon. It soon became a place of many cherished memories for a lot of people. Dixieland was played every Friday night and on Sundays during Lent, which became a family event. Marilyn could be seen singing with Will’s band, one of her greatest loves. Marilyn was a wonderful cook and spent many hours in the kitchen at Home Plate. Their fish fries became a hit and they received an award from Milwaukee Magazine for best fish fry.
Marilyn’s passion for music knew no bounds. She sang with Will’s band and the Jimmy Hartwig Band. Marilyn was a world renowned vocalist and was an overnight sensation with the smash hit single “They Go Wild, Simply Wild, Over Me” recorded on the Mono Label with the stage name of “Marilyn Marr.” Will’s “Band with a Beat that’s Hard to Beat” was her accompaniment. Marilyn really enjoyed singing with the Oconomowoc Legion Band, especially concerts at a number of Veterans Hospitals. She also carried the Wisconsin Banner in front of the Legion Band in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California.
Marilyn leaves behind her loving family, Robert (Barbara), John, and son-in-law Gerald (Elaine) Baumann. Her cherished grandchildren Kim (Paul) Lang, Patricia Baumann, Sarah (Greg) Hinze, Krista (Ryan) Schuett, Rebekah (Brad) Vickroy, Kayla (Ezra) Suhr, and Korey Eske. Greatgrandchildren Eliana and Alex Schuett, Margaret Vickroy and Layne Suhr. She will be dearly missed by many relatives and friends. Her wonderful zest for life and fun was so contagious.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her loving husband, Will, daughter Cheryl (Eske) Baumann, parents Veness and Marian Chipman, and a brother Richard Chipman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Personal Essentials Pantry, Bread and Roses, or a charity of one’s choice.
A funeral service will be held to honor the life of Marilyn at 11:00AM on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Watertown with the Rev. Todd Iverson presiding. A visitation will be held from 9:00AM until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow the service in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Lebanon.
