Leonard J. Gardner, 70 of Waukesha, WI (formally of Monongahela) went to be with his Savior on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Elmbrook Memorial Hospital of Brookfield, WI.
He was born on May 14, 1944 in Johnstown, PA the son of James and Luella (Custer) Gardner. Leonard worked for the U.S. Postal service for 41 years and retired in 2004. Leonard was an avid metal detector and enjoyed searching for buried treasures, loved collecting coins, hunting grey and Grinny squirrels and fishing. He had a life-long commitment Christ and served as a trustee and deacon at First Baptist of Monongahela and treasurer at Onley Methodist Church (VA). Most recently he was an active member of Brookside Baptist of Brookfield, WI. He was a devoted husband and father and loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by: Wife Nancy of Waukesha, WI; Children Jody (Robert) Leonard of Pewaukee, WI and William Gardner of Waukesha, WI; Siblings Sharon Gardner, Carolyn Gardner and Gary Gardner all of Monongahela; Niece Yvonne (Brady) Shimer of Lincoln, DE. He is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
Leonard is preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials to First Baptist Church of Monongahela, PA in Leonard's honor would be appreciated.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at First Baptist Church of Monongahela. Interment will be held at Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery of Somerset.
