Kenneth J. Wurst, 92, of Waterloo, Wisconsin passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Marquardt Health Center.
Ken was born on April 11, 1926, in Watertown, WI the son of Ernest and Hattie (Juderjahn) Wurst. After graduating from Waterloo High School, Ken served his country in the United States Navy. Ken married the love of his life, Bernice Haberman on September 3, 1955 and the two enjoyed 57 years of marriage together until her death in 2012. After he got out of the service, Ken worked as a master plumber for many years for such businesses as Zibell Hardware of Waterloo, Welch Plumbing of Madison, and Blied Plumbing of Madison. Ken’s loving family remembers his great sense of humor and how he often referred to himself as the “Wurst plumber.” He was a jokester and he was quick to make friends. He could sit and chat for hours. He was a great story teller and also gave great advice. He will be remembered for his positive spirit in any situation. He’ll also be remembered for his great sense for business. Ken had a love for animals and owned dogs for most of his life. Even in his later years, a visit from a dog would brighten his eyes and make his day. Ken’s military service was important to him. He was a lifelong active member of the Waterloo V.F.W. and was also a member of the American Legion in Waterloo. If you were lucky enough to know Ken, he made a lasting impact on you. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends.
Ken is survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ken is preceded in death by: his parents, and his wife Bernice, a brother Robert, and sister Gladys.
Memorials in Ken’s honor may be made to Waterloo Fire and EMS Supporters, Inc.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018 at 11:00AM with Fr. Jorge Miramontes presiding. A visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00AM until the time of Mass at the church. Ken will be laid to rest following the service in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
