Kenneth L. Jacobs, 74 of Waterloo, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2017 at Columbus Community Hospital with his family by his bedside.
Ken was born on December 7, 1942 at home in the Town of Portland, WI, the son of Leslie and Mabel (Steinhorst) Jacobs. He is a graduate of Waterloo High School and on October 3, 1964, he married Gloria Kornstedt at St. James Lutheran Church of Cambridge. In 1965 he joined the Waterloo Police Department and was appointed Chief of Police in 1972. He served the city in that capacity until 2002. His care and protection of his community was a driving force in Ken's life. His drug prevention efforts include his active membership on the Jefferson County Drug Enforcement Steering Committee. He was an active member of the Wisconsin Chiefs of Police Association. He served in numerous positions, including past President, with the Jefferson County Chief's Association. In 1995, Ken received multiple civic awards for his service including the Jefferson County American Legion Law Officer of the Year and the Waterloo American Legion Policeman of the Year. He was a talented musician and played trumpet with the Don Peachey Orchestra for many years. Ken loved his family. He adored his wife, cherishing her in life and missed her dearly following her death in 2015. His children and grandchildren were a major source of joy in his life. Ken was a diverse collector, an avid outdoorsman and loved involving his family those activities. Ken was a man who was loved and respected by many and his commitment to his family and community is rare. He will be missed.
His is survived by: his Children Stephanie (Michael) Masche of Reeseville, Leslie Jacobs of Madison, Nicolette (Robert) Zietlow of Reeseville, Justine (Richard) Mueller of Lake Mills, Christopher (Stephanie) Jacobs of Reeseville, Collin (Melissa) Jacobs of Deforest; 9 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a number of other relatives and many friends.
Ken is preceded in death by: his parents, Wife Gloria, Son-in-Law Donald Gunn, and Sister Marian Jacobs.
Memorials in Ken's honor can be made to St. John's Lutheran Church of Waterloo or the Waterloo Police Department.
A funeral service will be at 2:00PM on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at St. John's Lutheran Church of Waterloo with Rev. James Adomeit presiding. Visitation will be on Tuesday evening from 5:00PM-7:00PM and on Wednesday from 1:00PM until the time of service - both at the church. Burial will follow the service at Washington Cemetery in the Town of Portland.
