Judith Josephine Baumann

June 8, 1941 — June 6, 2024

Waterloo

Judith (Boltz) Baumann, age 82, passed away peacefully in her sleep from Alzheimer’s on June 6th, 2024 at her home with her loving husband, Wayne at her side. Judy was born June 8, 1941, in the town of Concord, WI to Richard and Dorothy (Borchardt) Boltz of Sullivan, WI. She attended the Village of Sullivan Grade School, graduated from Jefferson High School and earned her bachelor’s in teaching in from UW-Whitewater with a lifetime teaching permit.

Judy moved to Waterloo and taught 3rd and 4th grade in the Waterloo School District.   She met the love of her life, Wayne, at a polka dance at Waterloo Firemen’s Park and married four years later on July 1st, 1967. They remained in Waterloo and started a family. Judy stayed home to care for their two children, Ritchie and Theresa. She actively raised money for St John’s School spending many hours collecting and organizing Campbell’s soup labels, box tops, and milk caps to help purchase equipment. In 1985, Judy managed the Waterloo Kickapoo Kountry Stores (now Kwik Trip) for about three years and over the summers also worked at River Bend Resort running the store and taking reservations.  She ended her career substitute teaching for the Waterloo School District and helping at the local daycare for many years.

Judy especially enjoyed family time, Polka dancing with Wayne, exploring the outdoors snowmobiling, maintaining the family trees, baking many cakes, couponing and being an avid garage sale shopper.  Judy and Wayne lit up the dance floor creating memories at every event they attended with their two-step, waltz, and polkas throughout their 57 years of marriage.

Judy and Wayne also loved to travel visiting all 50 states, 5 provinces of Canada, Germany, and Panama Canal.  They traveled not only by car of 25,000 miles, but also by train, cruise ship, and many snowmobile trips to Yellowstone National Park.  When the children were young, family vacations included visiting relatives in different parts of the U.S.  In 2017, Judy and Wayne celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary by taking the family by Amtrak to Chicago for five days.

Judy was passionate about family. She spent countless hours behind the typewriter, making phone calls, and sending letters to fill out names and dates on the Baumann, Boltz, Borchardt, Riege, and Hahn family trees. Any opportunity to spend time with her children and grandchildren, she was there, ready with a little gift of love from a garage sale find or a snack. She loved to be with family members and help any way she could with many home projects or by making a customized cake for the event.

Judy is survived by her loving husband, Wayne and their two children Ritchie (Kim) Baumann from Delafield and Theresa (Peter) Schuster from Portage; granddaughters, Olivia (Ethan) Adler, Ella Stoppenbach, Koral Schuster and Haley Schuster; siblings Beverly Kramer, Eugene (Dianne) Boltz, and Shirley (Allan) Kohls; in-laws Gerald (Elaine) Baumann, Shirley (Wayne) Boos, and Howard Baumann; and many nieces and nephews.
