John F. McKay

John F. McKay, 72, of Waterloo, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Watertown Regional Medical Center.

John was born on June 30, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of James and Katheryn (Beecher) McKay. He proudly served our country in the United States Army in the 440th Signal Battalion during Vietnam. He worked many years in the Union in telecommunications servicing. John was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan, and he enjoyed going on culinary adventures to try out new restaurants. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his granddaughter Asher Rae.

He is survived by his children Kendra McKay, Matthew (Whitney) McKay, and granddaughter Asher Rae. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings.

A funeral service will take place at 11:00am on Monday, February 24, 2025, at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Waterloo, with Pastor Bruce McKenney presiding. Visitation will take place at the church from 10:00am until the time of service. Burial with full military honors will follow the service at Oak Hill Cemetery in Waterloo.
