JOHNSON CREEK- Joan Motl, a longtime resident of Johnson Creek, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Rainbow Hospice of Johnson Creek. She was 92.
Born on July 3, 1924 in Aurora, IL, Joan Schanen grew up and attended school in Aurora.
On October 4, 1947 she married Bernard (Barney) John Motl in Grayslake, IL. Shortly after their wedding they relocated to Johnson Creek, WI where they established their home, family and eventually their business, Motl Hardware, in 1949. She worked with her husband in the family business till they retired in 1979. Joan and Barney enjoyed traveling, visiting with friends, and spent many years in Harlingen, Texas, enjoying their retirement as "snow birds" together and with family.
Joan loved spending time with family and socializing with friends. She often shared her love of playing games like Euchre, Dominos and King's Corner with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren when they were together. Joan also enjoyed being a member of many community groups, most notably Daughters of Mary at St. Gabriel's Parish and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 305 of Johnson Creek.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother, husband Barney, and brothers and sisters in-laws.
She is survived by her children, Bernard (Christine) Motl of Jefferson, WI, Debbie (Terry) Frey of Johnson Creek, WI and Jane (Brian) Busler of Oregon, WI. She is also survived by five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 27, 2017 at St. Gabriel Parish, Johnson Creek. Father David Wanish will preside. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church on Monday. Burial will take place at the parish cemetery following the service.
