Janice L. “Jan” Van Hoosen, 88 of Jefferson, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.
Jan was born on May 12, 1936, in Wisconsin, the daughter of Edward and Gladys (Williams) Tutton. On May 25, 1957, she married Arnie Van Hoosen in Fort Atkinson at the Methodist Church, and the couple shared 67 happy years of marriage. Jan could often be found playing cards, especially with her two card clubs. She was a member of one club for over 50 years. Jan had a deep love for dancing and traveling with Arnie and her card club to locations such as Europe, Mexico, and Hawaii. Jan loved her family and would make special crafts for others, including Christmas stockings for her kids and grandkids. She enjoyed bowling, flowers, and cardinals, which she collected. Jan and Arnie were members of Christ United Methodist Church of Watertown, and her church family was very important to her. Two of Jan’s favorite things were ice cream and chocolate, best taken together. As Jan often told her family, “Always eat dessert first”. Jan will be deeply missed by those she leaves behind.
Jan is survived by: her husband Arnie; children James (Cheryl) Van Hoosen, Jay Van Hoosen and Jill Stevens; grandchildren Tony, Bradley, Cameron, Thomas, Heather (Jake), Adam, and Nathan; 6 great-grandchildren; and 7 special nieces and nephews. Jan is also survived by a number of other relatives and many friends.
Jan is preceded in death by her parents, and sisters Joyce and Joan (Marc).
If desired, memorials in Jan’s name may be made to Christ United Methodist Church or Rainbow Hospice.
A Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Christ United Methodist Church of Watertown with Rev. Dr. Young Tae Lee presiding. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church. Jan will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Watertown following the service.
