Hazel Buss

August 11, 1921 — October 5, 2015

WATERLOO - Hazel Sarine Buss, age 94, died peacefully on Monday, October 05, 2015 at the Golden Living Center - Continental Manor of Randolph, WI. She was born on August 11, 1921 the daughter of Charles and Clara (Halverson) Tjugum in Bristol Township in Dane County. On March 25, 1939 she married Erwin M. Buss at Bristol Lutheran Church, Sun Prairie WI. They were happily married for 71 years until Erwin's death in 2010.
They farmed together in the town of Portland near Waterloo for over 30 years. She was a member of the Waterloo United Methodist Church and the afternoon circle. She was active as a leader in 4-H and Home Makers Club. Hazel was very talented at designing and sewing quilts, knitting, and crocheting which she shared with family and friends. She loved to get together on holidays with family and pass on her heritage by preparing lutefisk, lefse and Norwegian pastries. She enjoyed picnics, fishing, camping at the Lake near Lodi, playing cards with friends, baking and raising flowers. Hazel and her husband Erwin enjoyed trips to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Arizona, the Dakotas, Montana, Washington, and Washington D.C.
Hazel is survived by one daughter Sharon (Lawrence) Bibow of Oshkosh WI; three sons Kenneth (Betty) Buss of Columbus WI, Dennis (Jean) Buss of Waterloo WI, David (Allison) Buss of Waterloo WI; eight grandchildren: Gary (Mona) Bibow, Randall (Sue) Buss, Dawn Buss, Vicki Buss, Pam (Scott) Taulman, Debbie Buss, Denel (Josh) Ireland, Daryn (Jeannette) Buss; 7 great grandchildren: Anthony Hall, Ryan Buss, Sam and Jake Taulman, Dillan Ireland, Andrew and Charlie Buss; one sister Shirley (Robert) Konkel of Mondovi WI, and sister-in-law Ethel Tjugum of Columbus WI. She was preceded in death by her husband Erwin, parents Charles and Clara Tjugum, two sisters Gladys (Olaus) Hauge and Virginia (Jerome) Roisum, one brother Clifford Tjugum; and one great grandchild Brandon Buss.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agnesian Healthcare Hospice Services or Waterloo United Methodist Church.
A special thank you to the staffs at Golden Living - Continental Manor of Randolph and Agnesian Healthcare Hospice Services for the wonderful care given to Hazel.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 7th at 11:00 AM at the Waterloo United Methodist Church, 348 W. Madison St. in Waterloo with Rev. Jan Beutin officiating. Burial will follow at the Washington Cemetery in the town of Portland. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of service on Wednesday.
