Harold Charles Gorder, 96 passed away peacefully and comfortably on Monday, March 17, 2014 at Highland House of Waterloo, WI. He was born in Waterloo on December 3, 1917. He was the third of five children born to Henry and Else (Baker) Gorder. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Heiking on April 8, 1938. They had 4 children; Barbary Hein (Jerry Christensen) of Sun Prairie, Patricia (deceased) (Chuck) Brumm of Watertown, Dennis (Dena) Gorder of Baraboo and Peggy (Steve) Woerpel of Pleasant Hill, IA. Harold had 7 grandchilren, 13 great-greadnchren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Patricia, his 3 sister; Vivian Kypke, Cecil Christopher, Donna Wilke and his brother Wesley Gorder.
Harold started his working career at the Waterloo Shoe factory. He also delivered holiday mail, was a projectionist at the Mode Theater, wall papered many homes in the Waterloo area and worked at Waterloo Malting. He was a volunteer fireman in Waterloo, WI. He was a Mason. He was a proud and committed life-long member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Waterloo. He enjoyed their vacation home in Montello before moving to Watertown to help care for their daughter Patricia. He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, slot machines, Ford model T's and driving his scooter around Waterloo. He really enjoyed the visits and occasional road trips with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One highlight of his life was his trip to Australia with his wife and his brother and sister-in-law, Wes and Betty. They took the trip in the mid 1980's and almost 30 years later, he would frequently talk about what they saw and experienced.
The family wants to thank the doctors and nurses at the Waterloo Clinic, Watertown Hospital, the employees of the Highland House and the employees and volunteers of Marquardt Hospice for caring for him. We also want to thank the many friends that visited him during his final stage of life.
Funeral service will be Friday, March 21, 2014 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Waterloo with Rev. Robert Kosky presiding. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00AM until the time of service at the church. Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery of Waterloo.
