Gregory D. "Greg" Freund

Gregory D. “Greg” Freund, 73, of Waterloo, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at his home.

Greg was born on July 2, 1951, in Madison, WI, the son of Robert and Barbara (Heideman) Freund. He proudly served our country in the United States Air Force from 1972-1976. He married his best friend Donna Standiford in 1972, and the couple enjoyed 52 years of marriage. He worked for over 30 years as an electronic technician for Eaton Corporation in Watertown and Perry Printing in Waterloo. He was an active member of the Waterloo American Legion Post 233, where he enjoyed working sliders. He was a boy scout leader and hunter education instructor for many years. In his free time he enjoyed coaching little league in Waterloo where he was known as “Coach Meat”. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, but above all he loved spending time with his family and friends.

Greg is survived by his wife Donna, sons Ben (Laurie) Freund and Jason Freund, grandchildren Eric Mason, Katrina Freund, and Annika Freund. His siblings Michael Freund and Kim (Dan) Newberry, and nephews Gabe and Nick, and his close friend/brother-in-law Mark Standiford. He is also survived by other relatives and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents.
