George Reid

November 10, 1937 — March 1, 2016

George W. Reid, 78 of Beaver Dam (formally of Watertown), passed from this life to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Hospice Home of Hope of Fond du Lac.
George was born in Chicago, IL. At the age of 6, he moved to Wisconsin with his mother where he attended various schools and upon graduation from P.J. Jacobs High School in Stevens Point, George enlisted in the United States Air Force. After initial training, he was stationed in Germany for 3 years. After a brake in service for 2 ½ years, he reenlisted in the Army and was sent to Alaska. George returned home on a short leave and on August 1, 1964, he married Harriet H. Slack. Being married for 46 years, she preceded him in death on October 27, 2010. Upon leaving Alaska, he had a short stay stateside before being sent to Vietnam. Upon returning from Vietnam, he was assigned as an instructor at Fort Jackson, SC. In July 1968, George was assigned as an Army recruiter in Watertown, WI where he spent over 11 years until his retirement. On July 30, 2014, George married Betty R. Canty of Lansing, MI.
George is survived by: Sons Matthew (Tracy) Reid of Fort Atkinson and Peter (Kim) Reid of Watertown; Granddaughters Maiya E. Reid and Marri R. Reid, both of Watertown; Sisters Sharon Brown of Davenport, IA and Marilyn (Fred) Ellis of Plover, WI; Brother James E. Reid of Kansasville, WI.
Preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters.
A memorial service in George's honor will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, March 4, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church of Watertown with the Rev. Dr. Robert J. Loggans presiding. Visitation will be from 10:00AM until the time of service at the church. Burial will take place at Meehan Cemetery of Plover, WI on Monday, March 21, 2016.
