Gene Shepard, age 90, of Waterloo, WI, died Sunday, December 14, 2014, at Sienna Crest Assisted Living, in Marshall, WI.
Gene was born on May 30, 1924 to Jay Shepard and Elizabeth Sherwood Shepard in Oak Park, IL. He graduated from Waterloo High School in 1942 and served in the US Army. Shortly thereafter he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and attained the rank of Sergeant. In 1947 he married Catherine June Nielsen and together they operated Shepard Furniture in Waterloo for 33 years. Gene was a private pilot, an avid motorcycle enthusiast, who loved fishing, camping and gardening.
Gene is survived by his son Thomas (Carol) Shepard of Fort Myers, FL/Middleton, WI, granddaughters Kelly (Corey) Bisson of New Durham, N.H. and Christine (Eric) Utoft of Deep Haven, MN, and great grandsons Thomas Utoft and Parker Bisson. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Catherine, and his brother James (Pearl) Shepard.
A private family service will be held. The family would like to thank Sienna Crest Assisted Living for the wonderful care Gene received over the past six months. Additionally, the family also thanks the staff at Agrace Hospice Inc. for the care and compassion they provided Gene, as well as friends and family who shared their love and friendship over the years. Memorials are preferred to Agrace Hospice of Madison, WI.
