Elizabeth "Betty" Wood

April 10, 1929 — April 4, 2018

Elizabeth “Betty” Wood, 88 of Watertown went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Marquardt Health Center.

Betty was born on April 10, 1929 in Monmouth, Illinois the daughter of Maurice and Florence Downes. After residing in Illinois for several years, Betty and her family moved to Wisconsin in 1960. The family moved first to Wausau and then later to Marshfield. Betty worked at First Methodist Church, Bonded Collections, Marshfield Credit Bureau and Driver Education Academy. Upon retiring in 2003, Betty moved to Watertown and was a resident of Marquardt Village complex until her death. First and foremost, Betty loved her family and she did a wonderful job showing it. Her grandchildren remember her as a thoughtful, caring and kind grandmother who never missed a birthday call or special occasion. She was happiest when surrounded by her loving family and they were her most cherished earthly possession. For leisure, Betty enjoyed plastic canvas crafts, reading, playing dominos, scrabble and bingo, as well as enjoying time with some of her friends at a weekly lunch bunch. While living in Watertown, Betty was a member of First Baptist Church. Simply put, Betty was kind in everything she did. Her granddaughter described her well when she said that Betty will be remembered for her loving smile, warm eyes, and big hugs. She was a special lady and will be dearly missed.

Betty is survived by: her two children, Letha (Tom) Dernlan and Lee (Judy) Wood; 4 grandchildren, David (Jamie) Wood, Kristi (Lee) Willis, Geoff (Stacy) Wood and Amy (Mike) Allen; 8 great-grandchildren, Kaida, Khloe, Jonathan, Jeremiah, Alaric, Charlotte, Nora and Benjamin; and a brother, Finley Downes. She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by: her parents, a niece, a brother and a sister.

A memorial service will be held in Betty’s honor at a later date.
