Donald H. Hubacher, 85, of Waterloo, died on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Rainbow Hospice Care Inpatient Center of Johnson Creek.
Donald Howard Hubacher, was born in Monona, IA on June 3, 1931, son of Howard and Margaret (Wolf) Hubacher. Don graduated from M-F-L High School in Monona, IA in 1949. He played on the 1948 High School State Baseball Championship team; that team was also twice the State runner-up. Don played semi-pro baseball until the age of 30. In high school, Don played the cornet and had the sweetest tone. He attended Iowa State College for 1 year. After returning home from college, he played in various dancehall bands in northeast Iowa. Don married Billie Tapper on June 8, 1952 in Monona, IA. Don farmed near Monona, IA from 1951-1964. He worked as a carpenter at Oscar Mayer from 1964-1992. He rode horses, even up to age 70; Susie was his favorite horse. Don and Billie traveled extensively in their RV and visited all 50 states. Even at age 80, Don could still drive from Wisconsin to California in 2 ½ days. Don enjoyed playing cards - bridge, poker, sheepshead, and pinochle. They recently celebrated 64 years of marriage. Don was a great husband and being a dad was the desire of his heart. He gave gentle guidance, teaching (not showing) his children how to accomplish tasks. Don will be dearly missed.
