Donald Hubacher

June 3, 1931 — August 23, 2016

Donald H. Hubacher, 85, of Waterloo, died on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Rainbow Hospice Care Inpatient Center of Johnson Creek.

Donald Howard Hubacher, was born in Monona, IA on June 3, 1931, son of Howard and Margaret (Wolf) Hubacher. Don graduated from M-F-L High School in Monona, IA in 1949. He played on the 1948 High School State Baseball Championship team; that team was also twice the State runner-up. Don played semi-pro baseball until the age of 30. In high school, Don played the cornet and had the sweetest tone. He attended Iowa State College for 1 year. After returning home from college, he played in various dancehall bands in northeast Iowa. Don married Billie Tapper on June 8, 1952 in Monona, IA. Don farmed near Monona, IA from 1951-1964. He worked as a carpenter at Oscar Mayer from 1964-1992. He rode horses, even up to age 70; Susie was his favorite horse. Don and Billie traveled extensively in their RV and visited all 50 states. Even at age 80, Don could still drive from Wisconsin to California in 2 ½ days. Don enjoyed playing cards - bridge, poker, sheepshead, and pinochle. They recently celebrated 64 years of marriage. Don was a great husband and being a dad was the desire of his heart. He gave gentle guidance, teaching (not showing) his children how to accomplish tasks. Don will be dearly missed.

Don is survived by: his wife Billie; Children Lynn (Steve) Rasmussen, Lori (Charlie) Kilian, Bill Hubacher (Donna Deppe), Steve (Pam) Hubacher, and John (Joanie) Hubacher; 15 Grandchildren Stephanie (Kyle), Dana (Mitchell), Bryn (Jeremy), Brady (Nick), Rachel (Michael), Kyle (Katie), Megan (Cole), Carmen (Noah), Crystal (Sean), Jenni (Ben), Nick (Aimee), Bobbie Jo (Jake), Danielle (James), Hannah and Sarah; 11 Great-Grandchildren Crews, Charlie, AJ, Chloe, Parker, Vann, Wyatt, Walter, Reagan, Bentley, and Aliya; Siblings Dorothy Larson and Jim (Mary) Hubacher; and by Lorraine Broad Welch, an AFS student from New Zealand the family hosted for the 1970-1971 school year. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and Brother Bob.

The family would like to thank Sue Teubert for the care she provided to Don during his last year.
