Dennis Griepentrog Sr
June 13, 1932 — January 13, 2014
Dennis W. Griepentrog, Sr., 81, of Waterloo, passed away at his home on January 13, 2014. Dennis was born on June 13, 1932 in Oak Grove Township, WI to Otto and Erna (Kanzenbach) Griepentrog. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Horicon, WI. As a child, he attended Liberty Bell Country School. Dennis served his country as an Aircraft Crash and Rescue Firefighter in the United States Air Force from 1952 - 1956. He was stationed in; San Antonio, Tx, Willmington DE and spent 2 years in France.
On December 7, 1956, Dennis married Shirley Mae Davison and began mourning her death June 14, 1957. Dennis then married Nancy Schultz at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Marshall on June 13, 1964 and enjoyed 49 years of wedded bliss.
Dennis was a longtime and active member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church of Waterloo. He served on church council, ushered and was the Video Coordinator, as services were broadcasted on the local cable access channel. He was a master brick layer and spent most of his 50 year career with Local 13 of Madison including ownership of Waterloo Masonry. In retirement, Dennis enjoyed a 13 year position as school bus driver for WeeKare Transportation. He was a lifetime member of both the Waterloo Gun Club and the Krause-Langer VFW. Other activities and interests include; hunting, camping, fishing in Canada, computer games and listening/dancing to "Big Band" music. He also was a licensed private plane pilot in his younger years.
Survivors include: Sons, Steven (Kaye) Griepentrog, Scott (Ellen) Griepentrog and Dennis (Amber) Griepentrog. Grandchildren, Corey, Kyle, Brianna, Olivia, Katherine, Devon and Zoe Griepentrog, Angela, Tracy and Michelle Baerwolf. Also survived by a niece, Debra Zimmerman, a nephew Gary (Linda) Griepentrog and many cousins.
He is proceeded in death by his first wife, Shirley, a Brother, Milton, a sister, May Ann and his parents and grandparents. Memorials may be made to St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church Waterloo or the Waterloo Fire and E.M.S Supporters, Inc. would be appreciated.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, January 16, 2014 at St John's Ev. Lutheran Church of Waterloo with the Rev. James Adomeit presiding. Friends are welcome to attend a visitation at the church on Thursday from 12:30pm until the time of service. Burial will be in the Washington Cemetery in the Town of Portland.
