David Glenn Stephens passed away peacefully in his home on September 23, 2019 after living with ALS for three years. He was born in Key West, Florida on October 9, 1951, the son of Judson and Colleen (Lackey) Stephens. David married his high school sweetheart, Ann Marie Dian, 48 years ago on August 14, 1971. David was a dedicated semi-driver at United Scrap & Metal in Cicero, Illinois for 30 years. He was passionate about community service, donating hours of his time to the Vernon Hills, Illinois, community where he raised his family as well as River Bend RV Resort in Watertown, Wisconsin, where he retired and enjoyed time with friends and family. David served as the fundraising chairman of the River Bend RV Resort and will always be known as a fierce Bags competitor, often the weekly tournament champion. To know David is to know he loved his family first and his community and that often his community became family. The Stephens crew would like to thank the many friends and family who have made every moment count since our husband/father's diagnosis. You put the "super" in SuperDave, allowing us to celebrate his life together with him until the very end.
David is survived by his wife Ann, children: Jennifer (Brian) Wedlake, Heather Tega, Colleen (Peter) Loughlin, Matthew Stephens, Nathan (Erin) Stephens. 11 grandchildren: Trace, Levi, Trent, Aquila Finn, Hannah, Riley, Ben, Taylor, Castor Greyson, Abigail, and last but certainly not least - Emmit. He is also survived by his 6 siblings, numerous brother and sister in-laws, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends who he considered family.
We will be hosting a gathering on Friday, September 27th, 2019, from 3-5pm at River Bend RV Resort main office, W6940 Rubidell Rd, Watertown, WI 53094. Greetings and refreshments will start at 3pm followed by a memorial of David's life. If you are unable to join us this Friday, know we will host a full celebration of life in the summer of 2020 at River Bend RV Resort, David's favorite place to enjoy life. In lieu of flowers or gifts we would appreciate donations to Death with Dignity- https://www.deathwithdignity.org/c4-donate-david-stephens/ or ALS Association- http://www.alsa.org/donate/
Additional note, if you are able to attend Friday’s gathering, the dress is casual; even sporting attire representing his favorite teams or their rivals :) as that is the authenticity Dad would appreciate.
