Dale Huhti passed away peacefully on May 26, 2024, at Rainbow Hospice in Johnson Creek. Devoted husband to Christine (née Klecker) and beloved father of Daniel Huhti, Thomas Huhti, and Michelle (John) Humphrey, Dale was born April 5, 1941, in Greenland, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, to Eli (Walter) and Ellen (née Kauppinen) Huhti. He was one of three boys--with brothers Eli “Junior”and Russell--and one girl, Marilyn. He spent his youth outdoors, tramping about with best friend Al Johnson or helping his father log.
Following high school graduation from Mass City (MI) High School, Dale entered the US Army and proudly served along the DMZ in Korea (1959-1960). Following his service, he relocated to Watertown, where his sister lived and where he met his future wife. Dale started working at Merchants National Bank before transitioning to management in the purchasing department at Durant/Eaton Corporation.
With a huge heart full of compassion, Dale always made others feel warm and welcome. He had a huge smile and quick wit and his special laugh filled a room. He loved deer hunting in Adams-Friendship with his son and relatives. He pursued fishing (via an annual trip to Canada), golf and billiards as hobbies but perhaps loved puttering about best, listening to the Brewers, Bucks, and Packers on the radio.
He was preceded in passing by his wife, brother Eli “Junior”, sister Marilyn, and mother Ellen and father Walter. He is survived by a brother, Russell, of Greenland, MI; his children; and grandson Walter Oford Humphrey (John and Michelle).
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 7, 2024, at St. Henry Catholic Church of Watertown with Fr. Manuel Mendez presiding.
