Buford F. Luedtke, age 95, of Watertown, passed away on Sunday September 29, 2013 at his home. Buford was born September 19, 1918 in Baraboo, the son of William and Emma (Boettcher) Luedtke. He served his country in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater, serving in both the Philippines and later in Korea. He married Helen Lucille Lund on October 10, 1940 in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Buford worked as a train conductor with the Milwaukee Railroad and Amtrak for 40 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, the Free order of the Masons, and a life member of the American Legion Post 189. He had a deep love for his family, animals and music.
Buford is survived by his 2 daughters; Penny (Vern) Wegner and Pamela (Gary) Lohaus both of Watertown, 4 grandchildren; Kim (John) Jafferis, Kirk (Darcy Davis) Wegner, Dr. Kory (Christina) Wegner, and Tara (Jason Hale) Henschel, 8 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and also survived by a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his wife Helen, parents and 2 sisters.
Memorials may be made to the Watertown Humane Society or to the First Congregational United Church of Christ.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday October 4, 2013 at FIRST CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, with Rev. John Kennedy presiding. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Friday at the church.
