Betty Tietz

July 11, 1933 — January 16, 2017

Betty Ann Elda (Mohr) Tietz, 83, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 16, 2017 at Marquardt Health Center.

Betty was born on July 11, 1933, the daughter of Erich and Lillian (Altenburg) Mohr. Betty grew up on a farm in rural Watertown and graduated from Lake Mills High School on June 1, 1951. She moved six miles to the city of Watertown where she worked as a secretary. On August 21, 1954, she married the love of her life, Bernard Paul Tietz, at Watertown Moravian Church. They enjoyed 46 lovely years of marriage before Ben died of cancer in September 2000.

Betty's hobbies included square and line dancing with Ben, volunteering and later working as a kindergarten teacher's aide for 18 years at Schurz Elementary School. She also enjoyed being active in various activities at Watertown Moravian Church, gardening, sewing and cooking wonderful meals and baking for her family and friends. Betty loved to spend time with her grandchildren and even as her earthly body failed, her kindness, strength, and peace remained. Those things will be remembered by all that knew her.

Betty is survived by daughters Lori (Tim) Schwefel of Oregon, Wisconsin, and Linda (Rod) Kind of Sussex, Wisconsin, her beloved grandchildren, Brittany (Aaron) Schwefel Peterson, Bethany Schwefel, Bridget Schwefel, Shantelle Kind, and Jordan Kind. She is also survived by her brother, Willis Mohr. She is preceded in death by her spouse, Ben, and her parents.

Betty's family wishes to thank the Marquardt staff for many years of caring support.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family who will be making a donation towards a new chapel fund for the newly constructed Towne Center at Marquardt.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Bethany Chapel at Marquardt at 11:00AM on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 with Rev. Kurt Liebenow of Watertown Moravian Church presiding. Visitation will be at the chapel from 10:00AM until the time of service. A private Burial will take place at the Watertown Moravian Cemetery.
