Barbara A. "Barb" Oelke, 79 of Waterloo, went home to rest on Thursday, December 24, 2015.
Born in Lake Geneva, WI on Jan. 25, 1936, she lived in Lake Como, and in 1954, she graduated from Elkhorn High School. She married Herman "Skip" Oelke, Jr. at Lake Como Community Church on Feb. 19th, 1956 with Reverend Wallace Christians presiding. She graduated from MATC - Madison in 1973 as an LPN. Barb and Skip moved to Waterloo, WI where he was in partnership of the grocery business known as H&O Supermarket. They had one son, Ronald Oelke, on Dec. 31, 1960. In her career, she worked as a nurse at Columbus Hospital, drove bus for the Waterloo School District, and owned Oelke Upholstery. While in Waterloo Barb was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church, where she actively served on the Worship Committee, Church Council (six years), and as head of the Altar Guild. She also sang in the church choir and taught Sunday School. In the community, Barb was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, played on the Waterloo Women's softball team, delivered Meals on Wheels, and volunteered for Weiner & Kraut Day.
She is survived by: her Son Ron, of Waterloo; Grandchildren, Christopher Oelke and Colleen (Sean Madderom) Oelke of Milwaukee; a Sister Shirley "Toy"(John) Richardson of Shullsburg; former Daughter-in-law Jill Oelke of Sun Prairie; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by: her Parents Walter and Berneice (Millar) Vorpagel; Husband Skip Oelke; and Sister Geraldine.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Barb's honor to St. Paul's Lutheran Church would appreciated.
A funeral services will take place at ST. PAUL'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 226 E. Madison St., Waterloo, on Saturday, January 2nd, 2016, at 11 a.m. A visitation will also take place at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be held at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Waterloo. The family is eternally grateful and thankful for the wonderful care provided to Barb by Dr. John Ewalt, and his staff, for nearly 28 years. The family thanks Pastor Robb Kosky and the Pederson-Nowatka Funeral Homes for their caring support.
