Arthur "Bud" Ward, 84, of Marshall, died peacefully at home on Monday, January 20, 2014. Bud was born in Valley, WI on January 20, 1930 to Evert and Verna Ward. He moved to Waterloo at the age of 15 and farmed until 1989. Thereafter he moved to Marshall with his wife and children.
He is survived by his devoted wife of sixty-three years, June (Rollert) Ward and was a loving father to seven children; Tom, Linda (Bob) Wise, Daniel, Dennis (Kris), Paula Jean (deceased), David (Kendra) and Doug (Wendy) Ward. He is also survived by three siblings; Alberta (Donald) McGraw, Arlene (Carl) Lang and Arber (Carol) Ward, as well as his twelve grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and other family and friends. Proceeded in death by his daughter Paula Jean, grandson Keith, sister Alice Butzine and his parents.
Bud was a 2nd generation horse puller who started competing at the age of twelve. He was inducted into the Wisconsin Horse Pullers Hall of Fame in 1993 and was a true champion in every sense of the word. He pulled horses for over 65 years and was a mentor to many. His love of the sport and his teasing sense of humor touched all who knew him. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren play sports. There are no words to describe how deeply he will be missed.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Marshall United Methodist Church (318 William Street, Marshall) with Rev. Afi Dobbins presiding. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until the time of the service. A private burial will be held Friday at Washington Cemetery, Portland WI.
